HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
HELLO!! My name is Fatimah and welcome to my first ever blog post (in my mind I heard a round of applause HAHA). This has been a long time coming. I decided to publish this post at the beginning of 2023, not because of a New Year’s resolution but as a commitment to myself to release my fears in 2023 and jump into this content creator space I have been secretly pining over for 10 years.
The definition of a Resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something.
We make resolutions every day but why are we reserving our personal, lifestyle, and financial goals for the first month and day of the new year? Do the other days in a year matter? New Year’s resolutions seem to lack depth and strategic planning on how to achieve your goals.
I am going to give you:
5 ways to set and achieve your goals in 2023.
- What is the reason you are setting a goal?
Achieving goals becomes easier when they’re meaningful and connected to a reason and purpose- your “Why”.
As I said earlier, I am invested in letting go of my fears and putting out my content in hopes of inspiring or helping my readers.
- Start small and start now!
Although I was pining over becoming a blogger/content creator for 10 years. At times, I become paralyzed by fear of doing the same thing everyone else is doing. I question if my ideas will be good enough to put out to the world, or will I be able to produce content on a consistent basis. The truth of the matter is I am still struggling with these thoughts, but I decided to start small and start now.
- Simplify your tasks to achieve your goals.
I can be somewhat of an overthinker. When I jump in all at once I can become overwhelmed with tiny details. The need to get things perfect can become discouraging and unmotivating. This will lead me down the road to procrastination. Split that one major goal into daily tasks. This will get you closer to completing your goal without overwhelming you. Research shows that it can take anywhere between 18 to 66 days to change a habit or create a new one. If you set an unrealistic goal or timeline, you’re setting yourself up to fail and you may become unmotivated before you even begin. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/ejsp.674
- Remove obstacles before you begin.
The major obstacles that tend to get in my way are household duties. I plan to start making small changes to my daily routine/schedule to set me on a path of consistency. Like meal planning, doing small loads of laundry every other day for me and my family instead of letting it pile up, and cleaning daily to ensure I have the time and energy to consistently work on blog posts during the weekends (and actually posting them Haha).
- Remember Celebrate your small wins!!!
Take time to applaud your efforts. There will always be unexpected obstacles to throw a monkey wrench in your plans, but when you stick to accomplishing your goals, that deserves a shimmy shake dance, a high-five from you to you, and a pat on the back.
